The CITA
Rescue Mission in Melbourne refers to itself as a
homeless shelter that "helps the homeless, help
themselves." They are currently a men's homeless shelter
and have facilities for 69 men. In addition to
presenting the Gospel, CITA provides these men with 3
meals a day, laundry services, beds, hot showers, clean
clothes and personal hygiene items. They have three
programs that serve the needs of transients, substance
abusers and the unemployed. CITA provides these services
at no charge to their residents. They operate
solely as a faith-based organization and do not receive
any money from the government. It is the funds raised
from monthly support and their two local thrift shops,
in addition to the service of their many volunteers that
keeps the CITA Rescue Mission open and able to help the
homeless men in our community.
